Boys swimming and diving: Ponies build on fast start to top Forest Lake

The Stillwater boys’ swimming and diving team jumped out to an early lead behind a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay and didn’t look back while posting a 94-81 Suburban East Conference victory over Forest Lake on Tuesday at Stillwater Junior High School.

That first race was the only relay victory for the Ponies (3-1 SEC, 3-1), but they finished first in seven of nine individual events and also occupied the top three spots in the 200 individual medley, diving and the 100 backstroke.

Brady Anderson was a double winner for the Ponies after posting the fastest times in the 200 IM (2:06.06) and 500 freestyle (5:04.25). Brennan Rosell (2:13.04) and Alex Percival (2:15.76) completed the sweep in the 200 IM while Sam Larson (59.97), Percival (1:01.57) and Tucker Naugle (1:02.86) finished 1-2-3 in the backstroke.

The Ponies also received first-place efforts from Alex Burback in the 50 freestyle (23.41), Tom Windett in the 100 freestyle (51.64) and Riley Hollerbach in the 100 breastroke (1:07.72).

Just 12 points separated Stillwater’s three divers as Liam Gibb (195.75), Colin Eason (191.15) and Anthony Shanley (183.65) finished 1-2-3 in that event.

n Also on Tuesday, the Stillwater JV team recorded a 98-64 victory over the Rangers.
