HASTINGS — With a game against conference front-runner and third-ranked Roseville on tap for Friday, the Stillwater boys’ basketball took care of business while dispatching Hastings 81-44 in Tuesday’s Suburban East Conference game.
Andrew Duxbury delivered 19 points to lead the Ponies (3-1 SEC, 7-2), who opened the game with a 25-2 run and carried a 50-19 lead into halftime. Tony Lennox drained three 3-pointers and added 15 points for Stillwater, which also helped its cause with 15-of-19 shooting from the free throw line.
“They had a lot of missed shots and we had a lot of fast break (points),” Ponies coach Randy Jordan said. “I just thought we had good energy and I thought the kids responded pretty well. Hopefully they will carry that over into Friday.”
Stillwater, which played its starters only about five minutes in the second half, held an advantage on the boards, led by Matt Anderson with seven rebounds and Joe Quinn, Duxbury and Chad Schlosser with six each.
The Raiders (1-3, 2-7) were led by Bryce Garvey with 11 points.
