Jaycees Christmas tree pick-up
The Lake Elmo Jaycees will provide curbside pick-up of unwanted Christmas trees and non-perishable food items for the local food shelf at 9 a.m. Saturday
This free service the Jaycees provide is an effort to collect much needed food for the hungry. If you live in Lake Elmo or Stillwater and want to participate, contact Dana Hale at 763-464-0930 or firstname.lastname@example.org so a stop can be scheduled.
Upcoming events at Marine library
Local Author Dennis McKenna talks about his new book, “The Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss: My Life with Terence McKenna,” at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Marine Community Library.
McKenna is an ethnopharmacologist who has studied psychoactive and medicinal plants for 30 years and currenty is an adjunct assistant professor at the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota. Light refreshments will be served and books will be available for purchase and signing.
Another event beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 celebrates the library’s one-year anniversary and hosts their annual meeting. Refreshments will be served in the lobby of the Marine Village Hall and the annual meeting is followed by a presentation from Ann Bancroft and Bill Simpson entitled “Reflections on Visits to Russia in a Time of Change.”

‘Power of Purse’ mixes fun, learning
Tickets are on sale now for FamilyMeans’ Fifth Annual “Power of the Purse” event 10:30 a.m. Feb. 9 at the Prom Center in Oakdale, agency officials announced.
This annual event offers people the chance to learn about FamilyMeans community programs and services that include credit counseling; financial education, therapy and counseling; grief, loss and trauma support; caregiver support and education, and youth development programs.
Other activities at the event include a silent auction of purses and other items, brunch and a keynote speech by Colleen Lindstrom of the “Colleen & Bradley Show” on FM 107.
