City seeks Planning Commission applicants

stillwater            The city of Stillwater is accepting applications for an opening on the city’s Planning Commission, city officials announced.

The volunteer position is appointed by the City Council. The Planning Commission meets on the second Monday of each month, usually in the evenings.

The Planning Commission is the City’s planning agency and conducts public hearings on applications for special use and conditional use permits, variances to the zoning ordinance, subdivisions and other areas that are covered by the City’s Zoning Ordinance.

The Planning Commission is a nine-member panel, with members serving three-year terms.

City officials believe citizen involvement improves the quality and responsiveness of public decision-making. Serving as a member of a city board or commission offers an opportunity for residents to be actively involved in their city government.

The city of Stillwater welcomes citizens to share their talents and perspectives by serving on an advisory board or commission. In exchange for a commitment of both time and effort, these committees influence the policies, actions and progress of our community.

Criteria for applicant evaluation includes, but are not limited to, personal and professional experience relating to the subject area of the board; knowledge of the community; knowledge of city government, and experience from similar appointments.
