Shoplifting complaints result in one arrest

OAK PARK HEIGHTS—Shoplifting complaints at area stores kept Stillwater and Oak Park Heights Police officers busy last Thursday.

A Saint Paul man was arrested by Oak Park Heights Police officers for misdemeanor theft from a store on the 5800 block of Krueger lane.

Officers arrested the man, identified in police reports as Johnny Patterson, after they received a theft-in-progress call from store employees, who said the alleged shoplifter was crossing Minnesota Highway 36 near Ruby Tuesdays

Officers stopped the suspect in the center median of Minnesota 36. The suspect allegedly told police that he had a stolen belt in his pocket and two pairs of jeans stuffed down the front of his pants.

He was taken back to the store, returned the stolen items and was transported to Washington County Jail. Patterson has since been released.

In a separate incident, a shoplifter allegedly stole meat and CDs from the the Walmart Supercenter in the 5800 block of Norell Avenue and fled on foot along the frontage road wearing a black leather jacket and jeans.

The suspect, described as wearing a black leather jacket and jeans, was later spotted fleeing in a car. Stillwater Police officers gave chase as the suspect fled at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic to evade the officers. Attempts to stop the vehicle were discontinued.

Officers checked the area and located the suspect’s coat at another store. The jacket has been entered into evidence and the case remains under investigation.
