After leading the Ponies to a second straight state championship, senior Wayde Hall was named the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater boys’ cross country team at its postseason awards banquet on Nov. 20 at the Lowell Inn in downtown Stillwater.
Hall won individual conference and section titles before becoming just Stillwater’s second individual state champion in cross country — capping a season that included seven victories in nine races. Eric Colvin and Eli Krahn joined Hall in earning all-state honors while leading the Ponies to a 34-point victory at state. Hall was also the team’s Points Champion.
Nine Ponies received All-Suburban East Conference honors, including Wayde Hall, Eric Colvin, Sean Bjork, Bailey Hesse-Withbroe, Eli Krahn, Matt Fronczak, Tayler Aarness, Edoardo Tagliaferri and Matt Thomas.
As a team, the Ponies won eight of nine races during the high school season and captured SEC and Section 4AA titles before repeating as Class AA state champions — the program’s fifth state championship since 1995.
Colvin, who represented to the Ponies as an individual and placed 116th at Nike Nationals following a disappointing fourth-place finish in the team standings at Nike Cross Heartland Regional in Sioux Falls, S.D., received the Sean Graham Award as best teammate.
Bailey Hesse-Withbroe garnered the Luke Watson Award as the top sophomore while Krahn received the Jon Francis Award as the team’s best freshman.
