Berg to leave Bayport

Bayport City Administrator Mitch Berg said Thursday he would resign from his job March 2.

Berg announced his decision in an email to Bayport City Council members on the same day the council held a special meeting “to discuss threatened litigation surrounding the employment status of the city administrator.”

The council held a closed session Dec. 2 to discuss the same subject, according to the city’s attorney. Berg said he was not at the closed session and did not know what the council discussed.

Berg has been Bayport’s city administrator since 2009. He has held the same positions in Mahnomen and Afton, Minn., and North Hudson, Wis. He also teaches at Argosy University in Eagan and Minnesota State University-Mankato.

Berg and Stillwater City Planner Michael Pogge recently were among five finalists for the Thief River Falls city administrator post. Larry Kruse, former Albertville city administrator was hired for that job.
