This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.
Volleyball — After helping the Ponies to their most victories in three seasons, Nanci Radke is chosen MVP for the Stillwater volleyball team (8-20). Heather Harvey, who set a single season school record with 300 digs, is the team’s lone all-conference selection.
Wrestling — Dustin Dahlblom is chosen the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament as the Stillwater wrestling team places fourth at the 16-team Rice Lake Invitational. Chris Anderson and Alex Cadwell also capture individual titles for the Ponies.
Girls hockey — Leah Danley continues her hot streak in goal for the Stillwater girls’ hockey team while making 26 saves in a 3-0 victory over White Bear Lake for her fifth shutout in six games.
Colleges — Former Stillwater captain and team MVP Andy Berg enjoys a strong start to his season hockey season at the Air Force Academy, where he receives the College Hockey America Offensive Player of the Week in early November. His 15 goals in 16 games ranks fourth in the nation among Division I players. Another former Ponies standout Adam Berkhoel ranks eighth in the nation with a .904 save percentage in goal for Denver University. One of Berkhoel’s two shutouts this season came at the expense of Berg and Air Force.
