SAHS Athletes of the Week
Allison Pasiuk — Girls hockey
The Stillwater girls’ hockey team has won five of its last six games after a sluggish start to the season and the Ponies have allowed two goals or less in each of the those five victories.
Senior goaltender Allison Pasiuk has been a solid final stop for an improving defensive unit, including several key saves in the third period to help the Ponies rally for a 3-2 win over Cretin-Derham Hall on Tuesday night. Pasiuk, who was also a member of Stillwater’s state champion softball team last spring, made 21 saves in a shutout victory over Forest Lake on Dec. 8 and turned away 18 shots in an 8-2 win over Park on Saturday.
The Ponies (5-2-0 SEC, 6-4-1) host rival Roseville on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Jake Cass — Boys hockey
One of several Ponies thrown into the varsity mix a year ago, junior defenseman Jake Cass is off to a solid start this season for the Stillwater boys’ hockey team.
Cass assisted on each of Stillwater’s first three goals and also scored the final goal in a 4-1 conference victory over Roseville on Saturday. He leads the Ponies with six points (two goals and four assists) through five games. Cass also scored Stillwater’s lone goal during a 2-1 season-opening loss at Hastings, but the Ponies are unbeaten in their last three games after starting the season with back-to-back losses.
Stillwater (2-2-1) hosts Minnetonka in a nonconference game tonight and travels to Wayzata for a game on Saturday.
