BAYPORT — Marguerite “Peggy” Belz Wolter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died surrounded by family Dec. 11, 2012.
Peggy was born in 1922 to Ruth and George Smart and grew up in Lakeland.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mavis Johnson, and husbands William J. Belz and Robert J. Wolter. She is survived by children, Weston Belz (JoAnn), Dianne Wood, (David), Janell Pohlman, (Elden), David Belz (Gabriel), Scott (Marie) and Jim Belz, (Julie); stepchildren Jeff Wolter (Stacy), Mary Lou Myers (Neal), Julie Myers (Glenn), Susan Loken (Bob), Brenda Stinson (Terry) and Tim Wolter (Tina); 43 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Following husband Bill’s death in 1961, with six young children, Peggy went back to work as the executive secretary and chapter executive for the American Red Cross. For 24 years, she was on call 24/7, helping untold local, military and disaster-affected families. She was also active in 4-H, FFA, League of Women Voters, PTA, Washington County Fair Board and other civic organizations. She was an active member of the St. Croix Valley United Methodist Church.
In 1990, Peggy happily added six children, their spouses and 29 grandchildren when she married Bob and moved to Nodine, Minn. There she was active in St. John’s Lutheran Church for 20 years. A believer in life-long learning, she and Bob attended many classes. She completed her last class on Mississippi ecology in 2011.
Peggy lived at Croixdale in Bayport for the last year. Visitation is 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. funeral service Dec. 17, 2012, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bayport. She will be missed by all.
