10 years ago this week….
This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.
Girls hockey — Goaltender Leah Danley records her third shutout in four games as the Stillwater girls’ hockey team blanks Mahtomedi 4-0. The Ponies outshoot the Zephyrs 44-4 to collect their fourth straight victory.
Wrestling — Senior Dustin Dahlblom breaks the school record for victories in a career for the Stillwater wrestling team. Dahlblom pins White Bear Lake’s Robert Blad in 1:48 at the White Bear Lake quadrangular to raise his record to 153-46, which is one victory more than his older brother Steve Dahlblom (152-52).
Girls soccer — After finishing her career with 66 goals and 40 assists to rank third on the team’s all-time scoring list, Haley Lentsch is chosen the Most Valuable Player for the Stillwater girls’ soccer team. Joining Lentsch on the All-SEC team are teammates Brooke Hesse, Katelyn Ley and Heidi O’Mara.
Football — Stonebridge Elementary sixth-grader Luke Dewall qualifies to compete in the third stage of the NFL Gatorade Punt/Pass/Kick competition as part of the Vikings-Dolphins game at the Metrodome. Dewall, who totaled 290-feet for the three events, advanced in the 10-11 age group following local and regional competition.
