SAHS Athletes of the Week
Kylie Wittl — Gymnastics
The Stillwater gymnastics team is off to a strong start this season and Kylie Wittl has been leading the charge.
The senior finished first in the all-around with a score of 35.625 as the Ponies knocked off perennial Suburban East Conference contender Park 132.325-130.0 last week. Wittl finished first in the uneven bars (9.2) and floor exercise (9.4) while also posting the top score for the Ponies in the beam (8.325), good enough for third place overall. Wittl, a returning state qualifier, also posted the top all-around score (34.625) while leading the Ponies to a 130.625-116.575 win over White Bear Lake in the season opener.
Stillwater (2-0 SEC, 2-0) host East Ridge tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Tony Lennox — Boys basketball
With a veteran lineup returning, the Stillwater boys’ basketball team received a nice lift from Tony Lennox in victories over Moorhead and St. Cloud Tech to open the season on Friday and Saturday.
A newcomer to the varsity lineup for a team that graduated just three seniors from last year’s squad, Lennox scored 13 points to lead four Ponies in double figures in a 66-57 victory over the 10th-ranked Spuds. He also tossed in a game-high 19 points to lead a balanced scoring attack in Saturday’s 81-40 nonconference victory over St. Cloud Tech as part of the weekend road trip.
The Ponies (2-0) host Mahtomedi in another nonconference game on Friday. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
