Girls hockey: Ponies blank Forest Lake

Hannah Okerstrom sparked Stillwater with a power play early and completed the hat trick in the second period while helping the Ponies to a 6-0 Suburban East Conference girls’ hockey victory over Forest Lake on Saturday afternoon at the St. Croix Valley Rec Center.

It marked the third straight victory for the Ponies (3-1-0 SEC, 4-3-1), who held a 36-21 advantage in shots on goal. Allison Pasiuk turned away all 21 of those shots to record the team’s first shutout of the season.

“Forest Lake has a good team this year and this was one of those games we were clicking on all cylinders,” Stillwater coach Tony Scheid said. “Okerstrom had a huge game and I thought it was one of the best games she’s played all year.”

Lauren Greeder scored off a nice feed from Olivia Arkell to give the Ponies a 2-0 lead with just one second remaining in the first period and Stillwater carried that momentum into the second while tacking on four more goals. Georgia Eger and Jane Vezina joined Okerstrom in scoring during that decisive second period.

“That second period was the best we’ve played all year,” Scheid said. “We had a really good first period and then Arkell made the pass to Greeder on the doorstep and that gave us a huge lift and a two-goal lead.”

Nine different players collected at least one point in the game for Stillwater.
