A retirement party for recently retired Stillwater boys’ soccer coach Phil Johnson will be held on Saturday, Jan. 5 at The Grand Ballroom in downtown Stillwater. The open-house style party will be held from 6-10 p.m.
Johnson, who spent four years as an assistant before taking over as head coach in 1981, finished his 32-year head coaching career with a 451-156-64 record. Only Chuck Scanlon of Apple Valley and Guido Kauls of Minnehaha Academy have won more games among Minnesota soccer coaches.
Under Johnson’s guidance, the Ponies have not endured a losing season since 1983. His teams captured 17 conference titles and 16 section championships, including back-to-back state titles in 1995 and 1996.
Anyone interested in contributing to a group gift can contact long-time Ponies assistant coach (now retired) Brad Pederson at [email protected] or 651-402-1442.
