Author of ‘One Frozen Lake’ discusses writing, editing, and publishing
Children’s book author Deborah Jo Larson is the featured speaker for the December Writers on Writing program.
Larson — in conjunction with Shannon Pennefeather, managing editor of the Minnesota Historical Society Press that published Larson’s picture book “One Frozen Lake” — will discuss the writing, editing and publishing process.
Larson’s book tells the story of a grandfather and grandchild who spend the day together in a tiny ice shack sharing humorous stories, hot chocolate and a great tradition, while discovering mysterious ice tunnels and precious memories. The book’s illustrators, Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher, have collaborated on more than 30 books, including those by Dr. Seuss and Garrison Keillor.
Larson — a public relations, marketing and events consultant — lives in Woodbury. She is the recipient of a Shabo Award for picture book writing and assures us that she “baits her own hook.”
The event is 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at ArtReach St. Croix, 224 N. Fourth St. in Stillwater. It includes a the presentation, question-and-answer session, book signing and opportunity to mingle with other writers, artists and book lovers. The event is free and open to the public.
