This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.
Girls hockey — Eight periods of hockey on a northern Minnesota road trip leaves the Stillwater girls fit to be tied after skating to a 2-all deadlock with Bemidji and a 3-all draw against Hibbing. Sarah Connelly and Chelsey Jones each score in the last two minutes of regulation to help the Ponies earn a tie against Bemidji while Connelly scores twice and Krysta Skarda adds a goal for the Ponies against Hibbing.
Awards — Former Ponies assistant football coach Jerry Foley gains induction as a charter member of the St. Paul Schools Alumni Association. Before serving as a long-time teacher and coach in Stillwater, Foley was a record-setting quarterback at St. Paul Humboldt and later Hamline University.
