ArtReach St. Croix hosts several December events

A holiday gift sale, exhibit of photographs from the Sudan and a conversation about arts education in the St. Croix Valley highlight ArtReach St. Croix December events.

Showing in two ArtReach galleries until Dec. 22 are a collection of photos from the Sudan taken by writer, photographer, filmmaker and humanitarian Deb Dawson. The images are on exhibit in conjunction with Stillwater Junior High School’s “H2O for Life — Water for South Sudan” project. The exhibit is on view during regular gallery hours.

ArtReach St. Croix features the jewelry, paintings, textiles pottery and more of 20 regional artists at a hot chocolate open house from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Along with hot chocolate, enjoy cookies and watch woodcarving demonstrations by Ron Nelson.

The holiday gift gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday through Dec. 22 at 224 N. Fourth St. in Stillwater.

Teaching and practicing artists and other St. Croix Valley community members are invited to a half-day conversations in mid-December asking the question: “What could a powerful arts education network look like in the St. Croix Valley?”

The meetings will discuss how to increase opportunity, affordability and access to arts education for all ages in the Valley and create wise long-term solutions.

Sessions are 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 with a light dinner included and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 14 with a light breakfast included at the Dunrovin Retreat Center, 15525 St. Croix Trail North in Marine on St. Croix.

The programs are free but space is limited. Email trish@artreachstcroix.org to RSVP and specify the session you will attend. ArtReach St. Croix hosts the program with support by InCommons and the Bush Foundation.
