George Anthony Schmitt, 76, of Stillwater, died suddenly on the night of Nov. 22, 2012, at his home.
George was born on July 8, 1936, to Christian and Frances (Hammer) Schmitt in Beaver Dam, Wis. He was united in marriage to Katherine Juhl on May 4, 1963. The marriage would be blessed with four children; Andrew, Stanton, Chris and Leslie. George worked for 3M and retired after 35 plus years of service.
George is survived by his wife, Katherine of Stillwater, sons, Andrew (Sara) of Mahtomedi, Stanton (fiancée Meagan) of Stillwater, and Chris “Popper” (Jennifer) of Stillwater; daughter Leslie (William) of St. Paul; grandchildren, Barret, Carly, Madisen, Manny, Rocky and Carlo; sisters, Rita Kemnitz and Rosemary (Fred) Berger both of Beaver Dam, Wis., and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral mass for George is 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Stillwater. Burial follows at the Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church and was 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25 at Simonet Funeral Home. Memorials given will be donated to a charity of the family’s choice in George’s memory.
