FORT WORTH, Texas — American Paint Horse Amateur competitor Melissa Baus of Stillwater captured the 2012 World Championship title at the APHA show this month.

The show was Nov. 7-17 in Fort Worth and is one of APHA’s premier events. The international competition draws competitors from around the world and was held at Will Rogers Memorial Center in the city’s cultural district.

Baus and her horse, The Gift Heaven Sent, competed against more than 2,500 other entrants for prizes, cash payouts and the championship win in the Amateur Solid Paint-Bred Western Pleasure category.

In this category competitors demonstrate smooth movements and good disposition at the walk, jog and lope as a group in both directions on the rail. Then they are asked to back their horses at the end of the competition.
