Stillwater singer wins opera audition
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Former Stillwater resident and Concordia College-Moorhead graduate Clark Weyrauch was named one of two winners of the 49th Annual North Dakota District auditions Nov. 17 under the auspices of the Metropolitan Opera National Council.
Weyrauch was one of nine singers from four states and the province of Manitoba who participated in the audition in the Josephine Campbell Recital Hall on the University of North Dakota campus.
The other district winner was Anne-Marie MacIntosh, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and a graduate student at the University of Manitoba. The Encouragement Award was given to Luke Votava a University of Minnesota-Duluth student from Big Fork, Minn.
Weyrauch sang for three seasons with the Fargo-Moorhead chorus and is a two-time finalists of the Minnesota NATS competition. He currently lives in Fargo and is applying to graduate school.
Weyrauch and MacIntosh advance to the upper Midwest Regional Auditions Feb. 2 at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul. There the two will compete with 15 upper Midwest district winners for a trip to New York City to participate in the national semifinals on the Metropolitan Opera stage.
About 10 semifinalists will be selected as national finalists and compete the following Sunay in the Grand Finals public concert.
