SAHS Athletes of the Week
Sophia Bisch — Girls swimming and diving
One of four Ponies who competed in four events at the Class AA girls’ swimming and diving state meet, Sophia Bisch earned all-state honors in four events while helping Stillwater to a sixth-place finish in the team standings.
The sophomore placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:04.29) and sixth in the 100 breastroke (1:04.59) while also contributing to a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:47.33) and sixth-place effort in the 400 freestyle relay (3:32.73). Earlier this season, Bisch also helped lead the Ponies to conference and section titles and a third-place finish at the True Team state meet.
Stillwater finished the season with an 11-0 record, including 9-0 in the SEC.
Hannah Okerstrom — Girls hockey
The Stillwater girls’ hockey team opened its season with a heavy dose of Hannah in Thursday’s 3-1 nonconference victory over 13th-ranked Blaine at the St. Croix Valley Rec Center.
Hannah Okerstrom scored two goals and added an assist — with Hannah Heacox also contributing a goal and two assists — to spark the Ponies in their debut. Okerstrom followed that up with an assist on Saturday as the Ponies settled for a 3-all tie in a nonconference match-up against Cloquet-Esko-Carlton after outshooting the Lumberjacks 53-18, including 8-3 in the overtime period.
The ninth-ranked Ponies (1-0-1) face Hill-Murray in a nonconference game on Saturday at Aldrich Arena.
