Girls swimming and diving: Ponies off to strong start at sections


It was a successful opening night for the Stillwater girls’ swimming and diving team in the Section 4AA prelims at SJHS.

The Ponies placed four entries into the championship finals in six of eight individual swimming events and featured three of the top eight qualifiers in the other two (the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly). The diving competition is slated for Friday evening while the swimming finals are set for Saturday starting at 1:30 p.m.

Stillwater also qualified first in the 200 medley (1:53.81) and 400 freestyle (3:45.80) relays and ranks second behind Centennial going into the finals in the 200 free relay.

Kristin Erf (58.85) in the 100 butterfly and 100 breastroke (1:07.25) and Claire Rutscher (54.71) in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke (1:00.53) each qualified first in two events for the Ponies. Sophia Bisch also posted the fastest preliminary time in the 200 individual medley (2:10.51).
