SAHS Athletes of the Week
Eli Krahn — Boys cross country
After finishing as Stillwater’s fifth runner in the Suburban East Conference and Section 4AA races, freshman Eli Krahn wrapped up his first varsity season with a strong performance while helping the Ponies secure a second straight state championship on Saturday.
Krahn was the third Pony to cross the finish line on Saturday as he placed 24th (11th for the purposes of team scoring) with a time of 16:04.5 — easily the top freshman in the field. His efforts helped Stillwater win its fifth state title since 1995, finishing 34 points ahead of runner-up Edina (80).
Stillwater team members will compete at the Heartland Regional on Sunday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Nate Ricci — Football
A sparkplug for the Stillwater football team each of the past three years, senior quarterback Nate Ricci closed out a remarkable prep career in Friday’s 7-6 loss to Rosemount in a section cross-over game.
Ricci, who has been plagued by an ankle injury much of the season, passed for 102 yards and rushed for 42 more against a rugged Rosemount defense. Ricci excelled on offense and special teams — and defense when called upon — for a team that won its third conference championship in four seasons. An all-state performer, Ricci ended his career as the team’s all-time leading punt returner.
The Ponies finished the season with an 8-2 record, including 7-1 in the SEC.
