ST. PAUL — Crews will begin hauling materials to the area adjacent to the Beach Road ramp off eastbound Minnesota 36 in Oak Park Heights this week as groundwork on the St. Croix River Crossing bridge begins, state officials said.
Dirt piles will be visible south of MN 36 as the area is prepared for future Beach Road Bridge construction, state Department of Transportation officials said.
The dirt piles, called surcharge, will be monitored by MnDOT this winter to measure the weight-bearing ability of soil beneath the piles, providing information for future construction no the site.
Crews will also begin construction this fall on a parking lot for use by the city of Oak Park Heights and Phil’s Club Tara Restaurant. The new parking lot will be east of the restaurant and replaces parking spaces lost from changes in the frontage road.
