Coaches and athletes representing the Stillwater girls’ swimming and diving program, including, from left, Carrie Madline, Hannah Sneden, Elmer “Grandpa” Luke, Morgan Espelien, Sammi Potts, Claire Rutscher, Jane Luke, Brian Luke and Stewart Rivall, recently donated more than 600 cans of food to the Valley Outreach. Coach Tess Radecke is missing from the photo.

When the Stillwater girls’ swimming and diving team celebrated its 100th consecutive dual meet victory on Oct. 16, the Ponies also collected more than 600 cans for the Valley Outreach Food Shelf.

Most years, the athletes do a small gift exchange before each meet through their big sister/little sister program as a small “good luck, do well” gesture.

This year, the captains proposed taking the money typically spent on the gift exchange and used it to purchase items for the food shelf.

Following the 100th straight win, team members presented more than 600 cans of food to commemorate 100 victories for each of the six coaches (600). The food was donated in the name of their coaches.

The Ponies are scheduled to host the JV conference meet this weekend at Stillwater Junior High School and will also host the  Section 4AA meet on Nov. 8-10.
