SAHS Athletes of the Week
Aliza Deming — Girls tennis
It was a memorable season for the Stillwater girls’ tennis team and Aliza Deming contributed to that successful run, which included conference and section titles and a fifth-place finish at the Class AA state tournament.
The junior was a consistent third singles performer for the Ponies all season, posting a 5-1 record in three team matches in the section and state tourney — losing just 10 games combined in her five straight set victories. Deming also joined Savannah Johnson to win five straight matches in the Section 4AA individual tourney and the duo posted a 1-2 record at state.
Stillwater finished the season 8-1 in the SEC and 17-3 overall.
Jason Kleidosty — Football
Stillwater’s bend, but don’t break, defense has had its share of contributors this season and Jason Kleidosty enjoyed a big night during Friday’s 41-13 victory over North St. Paul in the Section 4AAAAAA quarterfinals at SAHS.
The senior linebacker racked up 13 total tackles, including eight solo and three negative tackles while compiling 30 defensive points. Kleidosty also forced a fumble for the Ponies, who are allowing more than 292 yards per game but only Cretin-Derham Hall has scored more than 21 points against Stillwater this season. In nine games, Kleidosty had made 62 total tackles, including eight for a loss.
The Ponies (8-1) host Rosemount in a section cross-over game on Friday.
