Adapted soccer: Ponies win again

OAK PARK HEIGHTS — Austin Harjes exploded for six goals to help lead the Stillwater adapted soccer team to a 10-6 victory over Columbia Heights/St. Anthony Village on Oct. 25 at Stillwater Area High School.

The Ponies (5-3), who also defeated St. Cloud 6-3 on Tuesday (see Friday’s Gazette for story), jumped out to a 5-2 halftime lead and didn’t let up after the intermission.

Columbia Heights closed the gap to 8-6 in the second half, but Harjes answered with his fifth and sixth goals to build a four-goal cushion. Equally important for the Ponies was the strong play in goal from Riley Cludy, who also collected a goal.

“Austin was having a good day offensively and Riley was having a good day in goal,” Ponies coach Rob Hollerbach said. “Just as important as scoring goals is stopping goals and Riley is really good at it.”

Wesley Dahle added a goal and four assists while Dan Pehrson contributed a goal and two assists. Devin Wildes added another goal Stillwater, which carries a four-game winning streak into tonight’s game against the Anoka Hennepin Mustangs at the Andover YMCA.

“As a captain, Wesley is taking a leadership role and is getting good at going in the corner and doing a centering pass,” Hollerbach said.
