This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.
Boys soccer — Stillwater senior Dan Horst becomes the third Ponies player to be named Mr. Soccer by the Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Association since the inception of the award in 1995. Previous recipients from Stillwater include Marshall Morehead and Dana Kurttila. Joining Horst in receiving all-state honors are defender Drew Anderson, forward Blake Wojski and goalkeeper Matt Carlson.
Football — The Stillwater football team falls to defending state champion Hastings 20-0 in the Section 3AAAAA quarterfinals to end its season with a 1-8 record.
Boys cross country — Led by Collin Bushman and Jake Watson in second and third place, the Stillwater boys’ cross country team scores 37 points to win its first section championship in four years over runner-up Mounds View (59).
Girls cross country — With her eighth victory in nine races, Stillwater’s Ladia Albertson-Junkans defends her individual title at the Section 4AA cross country meet, where the Ponies finish fifth in the team standings with a score of 151.
