Charles E. Mereness was born in Slayton on Dec. 21, 1926. He passed away on Oct. 18, 2012, at the age of 85.
Chuck was a proud graduate of Murray High School and the University of Minnesota. He was an Eagle Scout. He served in the Navy during World War II. Chuck was employed by GE and 3M as a metallurgical engineer.
He cared deeply about his family and is survived by Carol, his wife and best friend of 62 years; two loving daughters, Gail (Scott) Barduson of Pipestone and Beth (Tom) Karlson of Rosemount; five grandchildren, Andrew and Paul Barduson, Beth Lynn (Josh) Janzen, Lyia and Samuel Karlson; sister, Dorothy Thorebeck; sister-in-law, Evelyn Fredrickson, along with nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Florence Mereness; brother, Robert, and infant son, Richard Craig.
The funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 115 N. Fourth St. in Stillwater, with visitation at 10 a.m. Interment is at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, Alzheimer’s Research or donor’s choice.
