SAHS Athletes of the Week
Shelby Litchy — Girls soccer
The Stillwater girls’ soccer team exceeded the expectations of most this fall and senior forward Shelby Litchy was a key contributor to the team’s success.
Litchy delivered a team-high 13 goals for the Ponies this season, including the deciding goal with just two minutes remaining in a 3-2 Section 4AA semifinal victory over rival Woodbury on Saturday. She also scored both of Stillwater’s goals in an eventual shoot-out victory over East Ridge in the section quarterfinals. Litchy also scored a goal each in late-season victories over Roseville and Mahtomedi.
The Ponies finished the season with a 12-5-2 record, including 6-2-1 to place second in the Suburban East Conference.
Patrick Roth — Boys soccer
Stillwater’s late-season disappointment of finishing second in the Suburban East Conference was lifted in a big way on Tuesday as the Ponies advanced to the state tournament with a resounding 6-0 victory over East Ridge in the Section 4AA finals.
Patrick Roth played a big role in the victory as he assisted on each of Stillwater’s first four goals — tallies by Jared Allen, Roman Devine and two by Sam Rasmussen — and then added a goal of his own midway through the second half to give the Ponies a 5-0 lead. The section championship is Stillwater’s 16th since 1985.
Stillwater (14-1-4), which has not lost to a Minnesota team this season, will play in the state quarterfinals next week.
