SMG opens primary care clinic next month in Mahtomedi
Mahtomedi residents can receive a range of health care options that include urgent care when the Stillwater Medical Group opens a new primary care facility next month at 700 Wildwood Drive.
SMG’s Mahtomedi Clinic officially opens Nov. 5, but area residents can get a sneak peek of the new clinic at an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 4.
The combination of growing demand for services and a lack of nearby medical providers led SMG to remodel the old Betty’s Pie Shop, according to Rich Robbins, Lakeview Hospital marketing director.
“Our research showed there was an un-served area,” he said about the clinic’s Wildwood Drive location near Century Avenue and Century College.
“We’re right around the corner from Century College,” Robbins noted.
The clinic will offer family and internal medicine and primary care services to start with three dedicated physicians, Robbins said. Some specialists will also visit the clinic, with other services added as demand indicates.
“We will have an urgent care later. We will probably have an OB over there depending on the demand,” he said. “It will be fully staffed. It’s set up very similar to our Somerset (Wis.) clinic.”
Robbins said SMG and Lakeview had been planning a Mahtomedi clinic for nearly one year, but tax liens on property delayed renovations to the building.
“It’s something that’s been in the works since last winter,” he said. “We didn’t get in as quick as we wanted to.”
Robbins said the clinic’s “grand opening” was planned for the day before the facility officially opens to avoid interfering with clinic operations. During the Nov. 4 event, visitors can meet the clinic’s providers, tour the facility and take home prizes.
Everyone is invited and there will be activities for all ages, including:
