Girls cross country: Ponies place 11th at Alexandria

 

ALEXANDRIA — The Stillwater girls’ cross country team placed 11th at Saturday’s Meet of Champions at Arrowwood Resort. Maria Morley finished 29th overall in a time of 15:48.0 to lead the Ponies, who posted a score of 267. Chanhassen held off Chaska 118-132 for the top spot.

Bemidji’s Jenna Truedson covered the 4,000-meter course in 14:06.3 to post a two-second victory over runner-up Megan Hasz (14:08.8) of Alexandria.

Abby Lange was next behind Morley for the Ponies in 36th with a time of 15:55.7 while Haley Beech (16:31.7) and Elise Buchman (16:33.9) finished 64th and 66th. Lauren Lampright completed the scoring in 72nd place with a time of 16:38.8.

Stillwater’s other finishers Ari Krenz (16:45.6) and Claire Patterson (16:46.6) finished 78th and 80th.

n The Ponies placed three runners in the top 10 to place second behind Chanhassen 41-62 in the JV race on Saturday. Fiona Montie set the pace for Stillwater in sixth place with a time of 16:28.5 and Cela Peterson was one spot back in seventh at 16:29.6. Cassie Willaert finished 10th in a time of 16:35.1.

“It was a great race for the JV squad,” Ponies coach Dawn Podolske said.
