WHITE BEAR LAKE — The Stillwater volleyball team blanked White Bear Lake 3-0 in Thursday’s Suburban East Conference match.
The Ponies (6-0 SEC, 12-3) have won eight straight matches and have not dropped a set in conference play, including Thursday’s 25-17, 25-14 and 15-19 victory.
It wasn’t Stillwater’s strongest performance of the season, coach Jamie Suapaia suggested, but it was enough to hold off the winless Bears (0-7, 3-15).
“We didn’t serve too aggressive and it was just pretty slow,” the coach said. “I think we played down to the level of White Bear Lake and never got anything going offensively.”
The Ponies were playing without Bri Horwath, but Savannah Sprenger collected 15 kills and Stephanie Houle chipped in with 11. Stephanie Dietrich and Brooke Hunter added nine and five kills apiece.
“With the absence of Bri, we had to rely on some other people and we got our middles involved and our outsides as well.”
Maddie Brandon led the Ponies with 29 digs while Susan Evans totaled 29 set assists. Janae Momchilovich also contributed 15 assists.
“We’d get a big lead and they’d come back a little,” Suapaia said. “I was a little disappointed to see how we reacted last night, but we got everybody in. We’re just looking forward to this weekend and it’s another good test for us.”
The Ponies are scheduled to compete at the St. Michael-Albertville tournament on Friday and Saturday.
