Gift of handmade warmth
Members of the New Richmond, Wis.-based Willow River Piecemakers quilting group Mary Johnson, left, and Patsy Larson donated 18 handmade quilts to Lakeview Hospital in honor and memory of the group’s former member and former Lakeview Hospital employee, Loralei Miller. Each quilt was designed around a Beanie Baby. The Beanie Babies were purchased at the hospital’s gift shop over the years by Larson. The quilts will be given to pediatric surgery patients during the month of October. Both Johnson and Larson have connections with the hospital. Johnson’s father was the architect who came up with the facility’s circular design in the 1960s and Larson was a hospital employee for 34 years.
