10 years ago this week….
This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.
Volleyball — The Stillwater volleyball team defeats Mounds View 3-1 to record its first conference victory in three seasons. Nanci Radke serves 24 for 24 and adds a team-high 12 kills to help lead the Ponies to a 15-10, 15-11, 11-15, 15-5 victory.
Boys cross country — USA Track and Field selects Stillwater coach Scott Christensen to lead the United States Junior Team that will compete at the World Cross Country Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Boys soccer — After knocking off Forest Lake 11-0, the Stillwater boys’ soccer team wraps up its second straight conference championship. The victory, which comes just one game after defeating Hastings 10-0, includes the third hat trick of the season for Blake Wojski. The Ponies pepper the Rangers with 38 shots on goal and, remarkably, 15 of the team’s 20 players have scored at least one goal during the season. Stillwater also defeats Mounds View 2-0 in the regular season finale to cap a conference campaign in which the Ponies outscored the opposition 76-8.
