Lumberjacks honored at Distinguished Service Awards Banquet

Members of the St. Croix Valley Lumberjacks were honored recently at the Special Olympics Minnesota Distinguished Service Awards Banquet at Treasure Island Resort and Casino. The Lumberjacks were named the Outstanding Delegation for 2012

The St. Croix Valley Lumberjacks were honored at the Special Olympics Minnesota Distinguished Service Awards Banquet on Sept. 22 at Treasure Island Resort and Casino.

The Lumberjacks received their distinguished service award as the Most Outstanding Delegation for 2012.

 

Lumberjacks athlete Kristina Fritz was selected the Outstanding Female Athlete by Special OIympics Minnesota.

Each year, Special Olympics Minnesota  recognizes individuals, organizations and volunteers who have made significant contributions to the program’s growth and success. Winners are selected by a diverse committee of volunteers and staff members.

One of the highlights for 2012 was the SOM Summer Games, which were conducted at Stillwater Area High School.

In addition to track and field, the Lumberjacks  provides year-round sports training and competition, including golf, bowling, skiing/snowboarding, basketball and aquatics.

Another local group, the St. Croix Trail Blazers, is a Special Olympics equestrian team for Stillwater-area athletes.
