Liz Click — Girls swimming and diving
Stillwater graduated three divers who competed at state a year ago, but Liz Click has helped pick up the slack this fall with some impressive performances on the springboard.
The sophomore finished first in diving with a score of 190.75 to help the Ponies to a third-place finish in the Gold Division of the Maroon and Gold Invitational at the University of Minnesota. Click, who is only a second-year diver after producing scores in the 170s a year ago, has already landed in the top five on Stillwater’s all-time list when she posted a score of 231 against Hastings earlier this season.
The Ponies (5-0 SEC, 7-0) host Woodbury in a conference dual tonight.
Sam Hodnefield — Football
It has been a balanced effort defensively for the Stillwater football this fall and linebacker Sam Hodnefield produced several big plays during Friday’s 17-14 victory over Mounds View.
The senior captain totaled six tackles — including one for a loss — intercepted two passes and forced the fumble that helped set up Danny Laudet’s game-winning field goal from 36 yards out. After giving up two early touchdowns, Stillwater’s defense put the clamps on Mounds View’s wing-T offense. For the season, Hodnefield has racked up 20 solo tackles and 12 assists to go with three interceptions and a knocked down pass.
Stillwater (4-1 SEC, 4-1) travels to East Ridge (3-2, 3-2) on Friday night.
