HASTINGS — Savannah Sprenger led a balanced attack with 18 kills as Stillwater swept Hastings 3-0 in Thursday’s Suburban East Conference volleyball match.
It was the fourth consecutive win for the Ponies (3-0 SEC, 8-3), who have not lost a set during that span after polishing off the Raiders 25-14, 25-8 and 25-15.
Bri Horwath followed Sprenger with eight kills while Brooke Hunter and Stephanie Houle added six kills apiece. Stephanie Dietrich also chipped in with five kills.
“We’ve gotten consistently more sets to our middles and they’re doing a really good job of working hard,” Ponies coach Jamie Suapaia said. “They might not get the most praise and flash all the time, but they’re doing a good job of getting us one-on-ones on the outside and we’re finally getting them over 15 sets a game, which is awesome.”
Susan Evans finished with 33 set assists and also enjoyed a long serving run in the second game to help the Ponies pull away. Sophie Vick also served well during a stretch as Stillwater took control in the first and third games.
“We didn’t get a whole lot of aces, but our servers felt really confident in our defense and we got after it. We worked on our defense on Wednesday and they knew they could be aggressive and hit spots and if they attacked on us we’d play some solid defense around them. With Bri up there blocking and Steph and Savannah up there I think it definitely helps out and Susan has a pretty nasty float serve that surprises people sometimes.”
Maddie Brandon provided a team-high 21 digs for the Ponies, who also received 18 digs from Vick.
