Foster care licensing meeting set for Oct. 1

Foster care in Washington County offers people the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life. The county holds a foster-care licensing information meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 1 in Lower Level Room 13 at the County Government Center in Stillwater.

The county requires interested people to attend an informational meeting, which provides an overview of the foster care program. For those who decide to become licensed to provide foster care for adults, the licensing process begins at no cost to them.

In addition to meeting state licensing requirements, foster families should be able to provide a stable family atmosphere (can be a one- or two-parent home); positive attitude; adequate housing, whether a house or apartment, and love and support for the children or adults in their care.

Before families can be licensed, they must undergo a thorough screening process which includes an extensive background check.

The next meeting is Dec. 3. For additional information, questions, or to RSVP in case of cancellation, call 651-430-6455. The Government Center is at 14949 62nd St. North in Stillwater.
