The Independent School District 834 Board will certify the district’s 2013 preliminary tax levy and discuss school board goals and alternative facility projects at its meeting tonight.
Assistant Superintendent for Business and Finance Ray Queener presents the proposed levy for fiscal year 2013-2014. State law requires the board to adopt a preliminary in September based on estimates. Historically the maximum has been adopted in September to make sure that changes can be made to the levy. The board cannot go over its certified levy but can set a levy below the certified figure.
Dennis Bloom will present information on 2013-2014 maintenance projects. They include building automation systems, mechanical ventilation systems, external building finishes, roofs, painting and various floor replacements. Currently the total for district wide projects in FY 13/14 is $2,053,200. All projects must be approved by the state Department of Education.
The school board will also discuss its goals for the 2012-2013 school year.
The school board’s learning session is 5:30 p.m. at the Stillwater Public Library. A portion of that meeting will focus on revisiting the retirement incentive that was part of the 2012-2013 budget adjustment process. The board’s business meeting is 7:15 p.m. in the Stillwater City Hall council chambers.
