OAK PARK HEIGHTS — Playing for the second time in as many nights, the Stillwater volleyball team steam-rolled Park 3-0 in Tuesday’s Suburban East Conference match at Stillwater Area High School.
The Ponies (2-0 SEC, 7-3), who have not lost a set in their last three matches, got everybody involved on Parents Night while winning by scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-10.
Stillwater hit .515 as a team and didn’t let up even after the reserves took over in the second and third games.
“We were spot on,” said Ponies coach Jamie Suapaia, who substituted five players all at once at one point in the match. “They finished off the game and did a fantastic job. It shows how much work our reserves have been putting in that they could come in and, without skipping a beat, finished the game just as strong as our starters.”
Savannah Sprenger led a balanced attack for the Ponies with 15 kills while Bri Horwath finished with 12 and Brooke Hunter added 10. Stephanie Dietrich chipped in with eight kills and Stephanie Houle added six in the winning effort.
“What we’ve been working on is teaching control vs. power and we’ve been hitting really well,” Suapaia said. “It shows in our numbers right here.”
Susan Evans spread the ball around while racking up 26 set assists and Janae Momchilovich followed suit once she took over the setting duties in the match. Maddie Brandon led Stillwater defensively with 20 digs.
“Susan did a good job of finding the mismatches and finding the single blocks and she really took advantage of that and when Janae got I she did a good job of that as well,” Suapaia said. “The last set the middles really started getting involved, but other than that the ball was spread out pretty evenly.
