Play cards for a good cause

Lakeview Hospital bridge marathon seeks players for new season

If you enjoy playing bridge, there’s an opportunity for you to deal cards for a good cause starting next month.

The Lakeview Hospital bridge marathon group is accepting entries for its 50th consecutive season that starts in mid-October and runs through mid-April.

The format is 20 hands of bridge played twice a month at the convenience of the partners and their opponents. Players of all skill levels are invited to participate in either day or night groups, one group for couples and another for pairs of working men and women.

There is no play the last two weeks of December and winter vacations can be accommodated.

There is a $20 entrance fee and a $2 fee per person for each playing period. Proceeds benefit the Lakeview Foundation Bonnie Nutting Scholarship and the Wellness Education Scholarship programs. The scholarship funds offer financial assistance to St. Croix Valley residents studying in health care fields.

The late Bonnie Nutting started the bridge marathon in 1962-1963 and it is open to any St. Croix Valley resident who enjoys playing bridge.

Entries are accepted through Oct. 3. Call Barb Dahlke at 651-439-4162 for information or to register.

And bridge marathon players don’t limit play to the fall and winter. The 29th summer session completed play through Aug. 31. Group leaders are:
