Joan Beaver, left, of Stillwater, and Cindy Jahnke of Hudson, Wis., take to the sky in a hot-air balloon from Stillwater Balloons to launch the United Way of Washington County East and United Way St. Croix Valley 2012 fundraising campaigns.

You could say the 2012 United Way of Washington County-East and United Way St. Croix Valley campaign is just a bunch of hot air.

Each United Way will give away a hot-air balloon ride to a couple from Wisconsin and a couple from Minnesota.  To register to win the balloon ride, email Jessica Roller if you live in Minnesota at jessica@uwwce.org or Kate Smith if you live in Wisconsin at ksmith@unitedwaystcroix.org. The email subject line should read, “Hot Air Balloon Contest”, and please include your name and zip code in the body of the email.

Contest entries are accepted now through Sept. 30.  The winners will be contacted via email after the Oct. 1 random drawing .

Campaign chairpersons Joan Beaver of Stillwater and Cindy Jahnke of Hudson launched the campaign Fridayin a hot air balloon provided by Stillwater Balloons.

“We are excited to begin our 2012 Campaign,” Beaver said. “Giving a hot air balloon ride away is a fun way to bring awareness to our campaign. We’ve been serving the valley for over 60 years because of the generous supporters in our community and we’re looking forward to another successful campaign.”

The community is invited to attend the 16th Annual Community Leadership Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Sept. 13 at the Lake Elmo Event Center. To register, call the office at 651-439-3838. The cost is $20 per ticket.
