Stillwater to host grid scrimmage on Saturday

The Stillwater football team is scheduled to host its annual scrimmage on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. In addition to traditional scrimmage participant St. Paul Johnson, the Ponies will also square off against Elk River and Bloomington Jefferson.

The Ponies, who finished 7-3 a year ago, will open the season by traveling to Woodbury for a Suburban East Conference game on Aug. 31.

n Stillwater football Pony Cards are currently available for purchase at the SAHS Activities Office and Yocum’s Holiday Store on Hwy. 5 in Stillwater.

Pony Cards, which are good for one year and sell for $20, offer discounts from many local businesses on things such as gas, food and haircuts. The cards come complete with a 2012 football schedule.

This year’s card features discounts from Acapulco Restaurant, Aloha Tan, Applebee’s, Arby’s, Bruegger’s Bagels, Burger King, Carbone’s Pizza, Culvers, Dominos Pizza, Family Cuts, Fred’s Tire, Great Clips, Heritage Embroidery, Holiday Station Stores, Jiffy Lube, Kwik Trip, Leeann Chin, McDonald’s, Nacho Mama’s, Pony Express Carwash, Quizno’s, Red’s Savoy Pizza, Sam’s Club, Steak Escape, St. Croix Cleaners, Taco Johns, Tires Plus, UPS Store and Wendy’s.

 

Stillwater twi-light meet slated for Thursday at SJHS

The Stillwater boys’ cross country team’s annual 5-kilometer twi-light meet is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 23 at Stillwater Junior High School. The intra-squad event — and the team’s only home race of the season — will be held on the Miller Field track. The race is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

Stillwater is ranked first in the preseason state coaches poll — and seventh nationally — with the majority of its conference, section and state championship lineup returning. The Ponies will open the season at the Marshfield Columbus Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 1.
