A western Wisconsin man died in a one-vehicle accident Monday afternoon in the town of Glenwood, according to the St. Croix County, Wis., Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was identified as Steven J. Berends, 29, from Prairie Farm, Wis. Witnesses reported that Berends was westbound on County Road G when the truck he was driving went into the south ditch and traveled approximately 100 yards before hitting a tree, according to an SCCSO statement.
Investigators said Berends was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner. The crash is the ninth traffic fatality of 2012 and remains under investigation.
The Stillwater Police took in 99 incident calls over the weekend. Those incidents included:
A suspicious circumstance in Delano Court. A resident heard movement at their front door but the person left in a gold-colored station wagon. There was no damage and it is believed the person had the wrong address.
An eight-foot section of chain link fence was cut in Lowell Park. The fencing on the levee wall serves as a safety feature. Police put tape in the location to warn residents about the damage.
