Stillwater Ponies fall sports underway

The Stillwater football team was hard at work on Tuesday while practicing at Stillwater Area High School. The Ponies, who finished 7-3 a year ago, are scheduled to open the season at Woodbury on Aug. 31.

The fall sports season for Stillwater Area High School athletes kicked off on Monday with the first official practices for football, cross country, girls’ swimming and diving, volleyball, soccer and girls’ tennis.

The girls’ tennis team is scheduled to host the season-opening McGuire Invitational on Friday starting at 9 a.m., and the rest of the teams are not far behind.

Stillwater football coach Beau LaBore enters his second season with the Ponies and they are looking to improve on last year’s 7-3 campaign. After competing in a scrimmage on Aug. 25, the Ponies will travel to Woodbury for the season opener on Friday, Aug. 31.

Pony Cards available for purchase

Stillwater football Pony Cards are currently available for purchase at the SAHS Activities Office and Yocum’s Holiday Store on Hwy. 5 in Stillwater. The card sales are an important fundraiser for the football program.

Pony Cards, which are good for one year and sell for $20, offer discounts from many local businesses on things such as gas, food and haircuts. The cards come complete with a 2012 football schedule.

This year’s card features discounts from Acapulco Restaurant, Aloha Tan, Applebee’s, Arby’s, Bruegger’s Bagels, Burger King, Carbone’s Pizza, Culvers, Dominos Pizza, Family Cuts, Fred’s Tire, Great Clips, Heritage Embroidery, Holiday Station Stores, Jiffy Lube, Kwik Trip, Leeann Chin, McDonald’s, Nacho Mama’s, Pony Express Carwash, Quizno’s, Red’s Savoy Pizza, Sam’s Club, Steak Escape, St. Croix Cleaners, Taco Johns, Tires Plus, UPS Store and Wendy’s.
