Shooting tragedies not all about gun control

To the Editor: Aurora, Colo., tragedy

It is sad to have to write this after the tragedy in Aurora, Colo., that left 12 dead and so many injured.

Yes, easy gun availability is part of this tragic equation, but there is another element to be addressed — the playing of violent video games by mostly young boys.

Remember how a song you recently heard gets into your brain and you keep hearing it over and over again until it almost makes you crazy? Imagine playing violent video games from the ages of 4 to 24 years as many as six hours a day for some. Killing and mayhem are the primary focus. Playing these games is indoctrination in its most efficient form.

We need to seriously look at the playing of destructive video games in search for answers and prevention from such aberrant deadly behavior. It isn’t all about gun control.
