Bernice Jessen

Bernice Jessen

Bernice Jessen passed away peacefully on Aug. 8, 2012.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Donald A. Jessen (1993); great-grandson, Willy Schroeder (2004), and Sophie. She is survived by her son, Don Butler and his wife, Nancy; granddaughters, Melanie (Randy) Schroeder; Melissa (Richard) Severance; and Monica Perme; great-grandchildren Andrea Schroeder; Grant, Anna, and Jack Perme, and Sophie Two.
Bernice was a long-time member of various Methodist churches, most recently (1976) First United Methodist Church of Stillwater. She had many volunteer jobs and enjoyed her time, especially at Wilder Forest and Good Samaritan Society in Stillwater.
From childhood well past her 90th year, Bernice played the piano. She and her husband enjoyed boating since they moved to Minnesota in 1946.  She was intensely curious, and was drawn to reading, painting, and the arts.
Bernice will be remembered for a faultless sense of humor. She could show you how to make a petunia hug your nose, introduce you to Santa Claus in a peanut, separate one rock from another by personality and make you believe you would find gold in a pile of sand. Bernice loved life in its dearest detail.
A funeral service is 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bradshaw Celebration of Life Center, 2800 Curve Crest Boulevard on the northwest corner of Minnesota Highway 36 and County Road 5 in Stillwater. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Burial is at Fairview Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Wilder Foundation.
