WCHS highlights early county photos at fair

A photo showing the front gate of the old Stillwater State Prison are among the historical photos on display at the Washington County Historical Society booth in Building C at the Washington County Fairgrounds during the county fair this weekend.

Vintage base ball match set Sunday against Denmark Demons LAKE ELMO — The Washington County Historical Society will bring to the County Fair a 19th century camera that once took photos of the most infamous residents of Minnesota, mug shots of incoming convicts at the Stillwater Prison.
The WCHS exhibit and booth in Building C is open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.
Fair visitors can browse through local and regional history books, ask questions to the knowledgeable staff about local and regional history.
On Sunday, the St. Croix Base Ball Club, a program of the WCHS, plays the Denmark Township Demons of the Denmark Township Historical Society in a match game of vintage base ball using the rules of Henry Chadwick from 1860. The match will be called at 1 p.m. near the demolition derby pit on the south side of the fairgrounds. Admission to the match is free to those attending the fair that day.
