Holmes, Kirksson join St. Croix Orthopaedics staff

OAK PARK HEIGHTS — Dr. Nicholas H. Holmes and Dr. Eric E. Kirksson are the two newest members of the St. Croix Orthopaedics, P.A., staff, clinic officials announced this week.

Orthopaedics new Urgent Care office in Lake Elmo. Kirksson, a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician, will treat patients at SCO’s Lake Elmo, Fairview Lakes and Stillwater clinics.

“The addition of two fellowship-trained physicians supports the SCO mission by increasing patient access in an MD-staffed urgent care setting and by providing alternative treatment options for non-surgical patients suffering with pain,” said Melanie Sullivan, Ed.D., SCO’s chief executive officer. “We are excited to offer these two complementary sub-specialties at SCO. “

Holmes earned his Bachelors degree from Roanoke College in Salem, Va., then his Masters degree in Exercise Physiology from Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Va. Following this, he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George’s University, Grenada, West Indies.

Holmes completed an internship at St. Joseph’s Mercy-Oakland Hospital in Pontiac, Mich., and a residency at Seneca Lakes Family Medicine Program — Oconee Medical Center in Seneca, S.C. Additionally, he completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at AnMed Health in Anderson, S.C.

Holmes is board eligible with the American Board of Family Practice with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. A

s a specialist in primary care sports medicine, Holmes is specially trained to diagnose and treat sports-related or sports-like musculoskeletal injuries.

Kirksson earned his undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and then graduated from University of Minnesota Medical School in 2006. He completed residency training at Ma

yo Clinic in Rochester, followed by a medical spine fellowship at Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield, Wis.

Kirksson is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. As a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, his focus is diagnosing and non-surgically treating spine, musculoskeletal, and peripheral nerve disorders. He has advanced training in electromyography (EMG) and spinal injection therapy. His research has been published in the medical literature, and presented at various medical society annual meetings.
